Nathan Deckinga believes that a good leader must be a great servant and is asking for your support in the May 9th election for Leander ISD Board of Trustees. He is a devoted husband and loving father. His children, ages 3 and 6, currently attend Good Shepherd preschool and Winkley Elementary School respectively. Nathan has lived in LISD for 11 years, central Texas for 24 years, and has over 13 years experience working in information technology. He is active in his church and is a volunteer with Leander ISD.
Nathan is actively involved in Leander ISD as well as the greater Leander/Cedar Park area. He is currently enrolled in Leadership Leander ISD and will graduate from that program in May. Nathan has been a constant presence at board meetings and is intimately aware of the challenges facing the board as well as the entire district, continually applauding achievements and suggesting additional ways to improve. Nathan also participated in the Education Equals Economics summit hosted by the E3 Alliance to form a cohesive educational and post secondary preparation plan between the schools, businesses, and communities of the entire Central Texas region.
Nathan recognizes that the greatest assets Leander ISD has are its employees and thinks that Leander ISD continues to recruit the best candidates from the area and beyond, but needs to do a better job of showing our appreciation for their continued dedication. A specific area of improvement is enabling improved feedback methods from our teachers to the administrators, superintendent and board members.
Fiscal responsibility is always an important issue, but the importance of this is significantly expanded in times of economic downturn. Nathan believes that now is a great time to review our expenditures and ensure that Leander ISD is adequately funding the programs that are most important and beneficial to the students, but that simply slashing expenditures across the board harms everyone in the long run.
Individualizing the curriculum to meet the needs of each student is a cornerstone of Nathan’s candidacy. He believes that students achieve their individual best when they are taught in a manner appropriate to their learning style and strengths.
